Due to company growth, our client has created a new position to allow the Chief Financial Officer to have a more strategic focus. The Controller will manage the day-to-day accounting and finance functions across the organization. This new role will be responsible for directing, coordinating and maintaining an accounting system that properly reflects the financial position of the organization, including financial budgets, internal and external financial reporting and serving as a resource to all of the organization’s business units. The Controller will be viewed as the major resource for supporting all of the business units. The company is in the process of reorganizing the business units and companies.

Responsibilities
  • Co-ordinate the complete accounting and finance function – there are companies/business units located in Toronto, London, Ingersoll, Lambeth, Clinton and Mitchell and currently certain accounting functions are centralized while others are not. In addition the nature of operations for the companies/business units are also quite varied.
  • Certain business units are currently using different financial systems; this combined with the fact that the company will probably have to move to a new platform for purposes of IFRS means that experience in conversion/systems would be an asset.
  • Analyze and review current business processes/accounting procedures across the organization and make them more efficient.
  • The business units may need technical assistance from time to time and the Controller is expected to provide direction and download corporate procedures by acting as an advisor.
  • Designing a template for the business units so that the reporting structure is improved.
  • Try to get more of a focus on future planning activities for the business units.
  • Analyze and review consolidations and communicate information to external auditors
